Eightieth “Birthday” Celebration

80TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Past Presidents (l to r) Idalia Aguilar, Jane Cohen, Kaye Hobbs, Michele Wehrheim, Helen Quinn, and Incoming President Sherry Ellison.

2017 marks the 80th anniversary of A&M Garden Club becoming Federated.  The club was organized in 1936 and was the first community gardening group organized at Texas A&M University to teach new residents how to grow in our soils and climate.  Although not directly affiliated with the university, we carry the name of “A&M” (without the “Texas”) because of our founders – members of faculty, wives and families.
Stay tuned for information on the celebrations that are being planned to mark the occasion!
Last week (March 29) we started the celebration with a “Birthday Tea” at a local Garden Center Café; Scrapbooks were retrieved from storage for members to look through, and various photos and items were displayed on trifold board.

Birthday cake was enjoyed at our May meeting, at which time the new officers for 2017-18 were installed by TGC Past President Sarah McReynolds.  Members were presented with commemorative pins.
